Additional information / Pre-requisites

Based on their preferences (and laptops system requirements), students will have the freedom to choose their replicated research topic either from PubMed or from a list of predefined research topics and each group (3-5 students/group) will::

• Gather relevant information, videos and images from clinics, laboratories and lectures.

• Design, model, animate and program 3D objects

• (Learn basic 3D programming)

• Present their 3D projects

* up-to-date laptops or PCs will be needed to achieve the learning objectives. (Cloud services can also be a substitute for these up-to-date requirements)

Comments

Acquiring problem-solving skills is the cornerstone to achieving competency in our everyday life. In veterinary medicine, promoting these creative skills lies mainly within practice- and evidence-based post-graduate research. Therefore, this team- and project-based seminar aims to walk the students through the process of establishing a virtual practice-based research. Based on their preferences, students will learn how to replicate a published research within 3D virtual environments, such as anatomy museums, virtual laboratories (biochemistry, bacterial, viral), virtual microscopes (histopathology, pathology) and virtual clinics (e.g. Equine Virtual Farm).
Over the course of the seminar, students will be introduced to serious games (theory and practice) and will progress from the iterative design of their research topic (3D) scenarios on paper to its realization within 3D modelling/animation programs (i.e. Autodesk Maya) and game engines (i.e. Unity). The final virtual researches will serve as online evidence- and problem-based environments for both under- and post-graduate studies. close
