The use of digital images and videos has become a matter of course in many areas through efficient methods of image and video coding. This lectures discusses the use of basic coding techniques such as entropy coding, quantification, predictive coding, transformation coding in image and video codecs. The focus will be on applied coding techniques in practice. The lectures gives an overview of the development of image and video coding from the JPEG standard for single image coding to the newest video coding standrad HEVS.
Prior attention of the lecture "Image and video coding I: Basics" is recommended.
