This course is designed for doctoral students working on their dissertation. As such, it constitutes the second part of a year-long instruction designed to prepare doctoral students for their archival research. Students and the instructor will collectively agree on a list of readings to prepare, present and discuss during individual sessions. Following this, each week, each student will prepare his or her selected primary or secondary source by providing a short précis outlining, first, the significance of the source; second, its relevance for the student’s own research; and third, points that the student wishes to discuss with the rest of the group in class. These texts will be circulated among all participants at least 48 hours prior to the beginning of the class. To successfully pass the course, at the end of the semester, students will compose the draft of a research report consisting of: - a report on the student’s achievements and challenges pertaining to his or her research so far along with his/her plans for the coming year - an informed, well-structured literature review - a sample chapter Course requirements: Regular participation in class; selection of and précis composition of selected readings; presentation and discussion of texts in class; participation in discussions; draft version of a 40-60pp research report, due July 16 (pdf-Version, sent to instructor’s email address). close
