In this seminar, we shall read and discuss the most important works written by the fifteenth-century poet Robert Henryson. A few introductory sessions will be devoted to the history of (late) medieval insular literature and the socio-historical, cultural context for studying the works of the fifteenth-century Scottish author. Subsequently, we will look at some of Henryson’s short poems in order to develop strategies to read Middle Scots poetry. During the remainder of the semester, we will then study Henryson’s longer poems, The Fables, The Testament of Cresseid, and Orpheus and Eurydice. Schließen
