The course “Digital China: Big data, big change?” focuses on current digitalization trends in China. The course looks at the complex phenomenon of digitalization from different angles, including smart cities, social credit, censorship, environmental monitoring, and AI politics. It aims to enable students to gain a nuanced understanding of recent developments and critically debate their social, political, environmental and economic implications. The debates are embedded into learning about and discussing topics including Chinese digital innovation, the digital divide, labour in a digital economy, and state-society-business relationships. The language of instruction in class is German. All other provided materials, including weekly required readings, will be in English. Schließen
