SoSe 19: Group Processes and Intergroup Relations
Christian von Scheve
Kommentar
The sociological study of group processes and intergroup relations bridges fields of sociological social psychology and political sociology. The course provides an overview of basic group processes and group dynamics, both with regard to social relations within and between groups. The course pursues three objectives: First, students will learn about key theories and concepts in research on group processes and intergroup relations. Second, students will be acquainted with the important methodological approaches widely used in empirical investigations in this field of research. Third, the course provides insights into the works of neighboring disciplines, in particular social psychology, political psychology, and organizational behavior. The course is structured into three parts. The first part covers issues of self and identity in relation to social groups. The second part looks at group properties and internal group dynamics, such as social cohesion, social influence, status and group decision making. The third part then provides an account of intergroup relations with an emphasis on intergroup conflict and cooperation. Schließen
