Kommentar
This tutorial is devoted to an important context of the works studied in this module’s seminar (HS 1410 “Dream Visions”): economics. While studies of the economics of literature has been flourishing in the last few decades, the specific way in which medieval texts engage and reflect, re-work and transform economic concepts and topoi is frequently bracketed. In the course of the semester, we shall read critical and theoretical texts that deal with the economies of literature in several different ways. Among others, we shall look at the Aristotelian concepts of oikonomika and chrematistike, at medieval and early modern economic history, at the intersections of economic and theological discourses, at strategies of medieval household management, at the ‘new economic criticism’ etc.
