Sabine Schülting
Kommentar
The course will offer an introduction to and an overview of the burgeoning academic field of Shakespeare and adaptation. This will include general theories on the phenomenon of adaptation as well as different critical approaches to the numerous adaptations, appropriations, rewritings, and spin-offs of Shakespeare. We will look at Shakespeare adaptations/reworkings in different media (literature, film, twitter etc.), from particular perspectives (e.g. feminist, postcolonial), and for various audiences. These topics will be explored in individual or group projects developed by participants over the course of the semester and presented at the end of the seminar.
Texts will be made available on Blackboard.
Assessment: Students are expected to attend regularly and participate actively in all classroom activities. This will include work on a small research project to be presented at the end of the semester.
