SoSe 19: US Economic Policy

This course explores key issues in contemporary US economic policy. The class combines a 2-hour introductory module, followed by a 2-hour seminar session during which we will discuss specific case studies. Attendance of both classes is mandatory. The topics covered in depth include: globalization and protectionism, intergenerational mobility; poverty and inequality; economic growth; the debate about fiscal policy; financial markets and monetary policy and bank regulation. Course requirements: The requirements are active participation, in-class presentation of one of the required readings and a final 10 page seminar paper. The class will be taught in English. Texts will be made available on Blackboard. Students absolutely need to attend the first session.
