  Additional information / Pre-requisites
This course addresses students majoring in Geophysics or interested students from related disciplines like e.g. Physics, Geology, or Meteorology, who should bring basic mathematical and physical understanding. Prerequisites: basic knowledge of MATLAB programming. Please contact Dr. Abakumov in advance: abakumov@zedat.fu-berlin.de close

  Comments
This course provides a broad introduction to inverse problems and machine learning and demonstrates application of these techniques to modern geophysical problems. Topics include: (i) Tomography (ii) Bayesian inversion (iii) Full waveform inversion (iv) Supervised and unsupervised machine learning. The goal of the course is to highlight similarities between these methods. The course will also draw from numerous case studies and applications, so that you'll also learn how to apply inversion and machine learning algorithms. Most of case studies will be performed at PCs.
