SoSe 20: Rising Powers in World Politics
Lora Anne Viola
Kommentar
ONLINE COURSE. This course examines the shifting distribution of power in world politics and its implications for the current global order that has largely been a product of American hegemony since the end of WWII. We will assess the emergence of non-Western states as major players in world politics around three sets of questions: 1) Who are these actors, what makes them powerful, and how do they affect global governance and US leadership? 2) What challenges does the global power shift bring for international security cooperation, for global economic cooperation, and for the nature of global governance institutions? 3) How are established powers, such as the US, accommodating or reacting to the challenge of rising powers? Finally, we will consider what implications these shifts have for questions of global justice. Schließen
