SoSe 20: Forschungs- und Examenskolloquium Geschichte

ONLINE COURSE - Format: Due to precautions taken against CORVID-19, this colloquium is experimental and so is the syllabus. Sessions will conceivably take place in a virtual classroom for which each student will receive access to a virtual seminar room via an invitation and, if necessary, an access code and a password. If your standard browser (e.g. Safari) does not work, try a different one (e.g. Firefox). Sessions will vary with some consisting of research presentations while others focus on interactive work and methodology. Course: This colloquium is primarily designed for M.A. students preparing to write a thesis and complete the same within this or the next semester. If you are not ready to prepare yourself for this task, you should not yet sign up for this course. The research colloquium has three purposes: First, it convenes several times in small group sessions for M.A. thesis candidates to discuss writing and research skills as well as the progress of individual projects. Second, it offers graduate students, ABDs and postgraduates the opportunity to discuss and receive feedback on their research and ideas related to North American history along with new research trends, topics, publications, and career trajectories. Third, it features a diverse number of guest speakers presenting their own research, some of whom will be selected by the course participants themselves. All students interested in North American history and related issues are welcome! Course requirements: Active and regular participation in class is a requirement: Please be familiar with, and ready to discuss: required readings for class & introductions of individual guest speakers; online and in-class presentation of questions and research proposal, composition & in-class presentation of proposal (3-5 pp, plus table of contents & bibliography, due one week prior to the last session). Participants will comment on a fellow student’s proposal in writing and in class during the last session (post comments online 24 hours after the last session). Schließen
