Genia Kostka
Kommentar
The course focuses on current digitalization trends in China. The course will look at different cases from which to understand the complex phenomenon of digitalization, including studying broader AI policies, specific instruments such as facial recognition technologies and social credit, and specific case studies such as smart cities in China. It aims to enable students to gain a nuanced understanding of recent developments and critically debate their social, political, environmental and economic implications. The course will focus on learning about and rethinking concepts of digital authoritarianism and state-society relationships.
Unfortunately, due to the Corona pandemic, this will be a self-learning offline course based on a syllabus and reading and research tasks. Students will be provided with the PowerPoint slides on blackboard and are given various writing and research tasks throughout the semester to ensure they have understood the materials. Some tasks will be based on (online) group work.
