SoSe 20: PS-Surveying English Literatures: Modernist Prose
James Daniel Mellor
Kommentar
Literary Modernism is a vague umbrella term for a variety of perceived historic transformations
in writing — its style, subjects, forms, and conceptions — and is often seen as a radical break
with tradition. This course will look at various prose and critical works from the period 1890-1959
and aims to examine the usefulness of the term for describing innovation in prose writing, and to
explore to what extent critical practises and conceptions of ‘modernity’ inform the definition.
