Although the educational expansion has led to a growing participation in secondary and higher education in western societies, educational inequalities are still persistent. Against this backdrop, the seminar addresses the question how social inequalities are reproduced through education. We will pursue this issue from a theoretical as well as from an empirical perspective that covers quantitative and qualitative research on educational inequalities. Furthermore, we are going to focus on the intersection of educational inequalities with class, gender, race/ethnicity and health and study educational systems and their outcomes as well as educational investments and strategies by different classes in Europe and beyond.
