This course aims to provide students with an introduction into European climate and environmental politics. We will discuss theories on European integration and the way they explain the emergence of climate policy. Attention will be given to the institutional set up of the European Union and the actor constellations involved in policy-making. The course will refer to the policy cycle exploring the influence of different actor groups on the initiation, agenda setting, decision-making and implementation of European environmental policy. We will focus on regulatory areas related to climate change, energy and environment and discuss the consequences the Brexit process has on climate politics. close
