SoSe 20: PS-Medieval English Literatures: Geoffrey Chaucer's Dream Visions
Wolfram Keller
Comments
Geoffrey Chaucer is mainly known for his Canterbury Tales and for his courtly romance Troilus and Criseyde. Throughout his career, Chaucer also penned several dream visions, The Book of the Duchess, The Parliament of Fowls, The House of Fame, and the Prologue to the Legend of Good Women. The aim of this seminar is first and foremost to familiarize students with Middle English texts. We will therefore work very closely with the primary texts. Dream visions are a popular genre in the Middle Ages, so that we will also talk about generic expectations and how Chaucer may or may not subvert the latter. close
