Comments
The main idea of this seminar is to explain to students the basics of scientific writing and to show that the structure of the bachelor, master or doctoral thesis has much in common with scientific journal articles and reports. Using my own extensive experience in scientific writing, I try to draw their attention to the common mistakes of beginners and indicate the problems that may occur during the writing process. During the seminar, simple and understandable models for writing the thesis or journal manuscript are provided and discussed, including the Introduction, Data and methods, Results, Discussions and Conclusions chapters. The importance of the well-written abstract and properly selected keywords and the carefully chosen title of the work are also discussed. The basics of the Poster making and Poster presentation are also given. Last but not least, I'm talking about scientific ethics (including the "Acknowledgement" section) and plagiarism. At the end of the course, students are given two weeks to prepare their own PowerPoint presentation (about 15 min) using the knowledge they have received. The theme of the presentation is free choice, but students are encouraged to build on their own research topic. All presentations are held during the final week of the semester. close
