Pomponius Mela's chorographia ("description of the earth") was written during the reign of the Roman emperor Claudius (probably around AD 43/44) and is thus the oldest surviving work on geography in Latin. Mela described the most important places and peoples of Europe, Asia and Africa in form of a "mental cruise" along the coasts of the known world. For a long time, Mela's chorography was a highly valued and widely used textbook, which gives us an insight into the geographical knowledge and the perception of foreign cultures in educated Roman circles.
The acquisition of a „Schein“ requires regular participation and provision of the written and oral services specified in the respective examination and study regulations.
Working language in this course is German.
