Comments
In this course, we want to approach the cultural exchange between the Arab "Orient" and the European West as reflected by translated texts from Arabic literature. This ranges from texts from the 10th century to the Crusader period, the 19th century, and the early 20th century to the present day. They are travelogues, but also novels and satirical portrayals, which show us Europe from a completely different point of view, and in which we can detect the profound changes that took place in the relationship between the Middle East and Europe. From a theoretical point of view, we also want to discuss concepts such as cultural contact, Orientalism and the “Nahda”. close
