The Middle Ages can be regarded as a golden age of hagiography in the Latin West. The analysis of medieval hagiographic legends and their mediality will reveal models and paradoxies of holiness. The emphasis will lie on narratives and paintings that focus crucial events in a saint’s biography: conversion or election, miracles, as the case may be: martyrdom, canonization ? complementary to everyday efforts in ascesis, meditation, temptation etc. close
