SoSe 20: Digital Governance

The course focuses on current digitalization trends in China. The course will look at different cases from which to understand the complex phenomenon of digitalization, including studying broader AI policies, specific instruments such as facial recognition technologies and social credit, and specific case studies such as smart cities in China. Student joining the class will write an individual short essay as well as prepare group debates on topics related to digitalization. The debates will be embedded into learning about and rethinking concepts of digital authoritarianism and state-society relationships. close
