SoSe 20: Pandemic correspondents: better writing skills by correspondence

Comments

Subject: A time of isolation lends itself to reading—and writing. In this course we will share perspectives on the pandemic by corresponding with each other, and in the process improve our writing skills. Program: Each week we will write a one-page text on a particular topic, which may range from health and hospitals to politics and economics. Students will be encouraged to approach these writing tasks in varied ways, e.g. as an article for a local newspaper, a speech for a politician, an abstract of an academic paper, or a personal letter to a friend. Once you have written your text you will submit it, anonymously, for review and receive a text for review written by one of your peers. By the end of the course you will have read a unique range of perspectives on the pandemic, and you will have improved your own writing skills by helping others to improve theirs. Is this course suitable for you? The course is open to students from all academic fields, but will be especially useful for students wishing to improve their English writing skills. There are no specific prerequisites. Workload and assessment: In order to obtain 5 ECTS you will need to • write at least 3000 words for your peers • constructively review at least 3000 words written by your peers. close
