Comments

Dying and death were omnipresent in Roman life, not the least due to the high infant mortality, rampant epidemics and the ubiquity of war. How did the Romans react to these inevitable phenomena? The first part of the seminar (the so-called “preparatory phase”) introduces the most important basic disciplines and methods of ancient history. The second part is devoted to seminar topic "Aging, dying and death in the Roman world". Here, the knowledge and instruments acquired in the first part will be practiced on specific sources, objects and questions. The seminar will also discuss current research problems in connection with the seminar topic. The acquisition of a „Schein“ requires regular participation and provision of the written and oral services specified in the respective examination and study regulations. Working language in this course is German. close
