SoSe 20: Introduction to American Economic History

ONLINE COURSE - This seminar will give students an introduction to major economic concepts shaping the history of the American economy. The first half of the semester consists of input and discussion sessions. In those sessions, students will learn about four important topics related to the development of the American economy, namely growth, trade, industrialization, and institutions. In the second half, the students will prepare their seminar paper. Those sessions deal with finding a research question, structuring a paper and learning the basic skills necessary to write a good paper.
The course will be taught in English. Coursework includes a seminar paper, reading scientific papers and submitting discussion questions related to the literature. A detailed schedule and the required reading will be provided via Blackboard.
