SoSe 21: Music and Social Movements in the U.S., 1960-1990

In this B.A. course we will explore how music mattered in regards to political activism in the United States between 1960 and 1990. We will talk about possible approaches to study history through music and discuss a variety of social movements that shaped US history. Besides engaging with secondary material, we will read and listen to primary sources to explore the role music played in social movements. It is not mandatory that students are able to read sheet music. close
