SoSe 21: CANCELLED: Introduction to spatial data analysis with Matlab and ArcGIS
Alexander Rohrmann
Comments
During the course the students will be using only MATLAB, TopoToolbox and ArcGIS. There will be blocks of lectures followed by labs, where the newly presented content from the lectures will be applied directly in MATLAB/TopoToolbox. Within each lab there will be questions/tasks that need to be completed and that will be graded.
COURSE OBJECTIVES:
-Achieve a general understanding of sources and characteristics of digital elevation model data
-Appreciate major applications of topograhic analysis in geosciences, emphasizing geomorphology tools (esp.TopoToolbox; https://topotool-box.wordpress.com/)
- Apply understanding to student's own projects.
COURSE PROGRAM
Each block will have lectures, computer demonstrations, and moderated discussion.
At the end of the semester the student will be asked to pick a region of interest, for example for your bachelor or master thesis, and obtain a digital elevation model. The student will perform an topographic and geomorphic analysis of the area and apply the tools learned in the course.
