The seminar introduces students to the workings of the monetary, banking, and payment system, with a special focus on the United States. The course discusses the significance of the commercial banking sector in the money creation process, the role of the central bank and other government institutions in the monetary system, U.S. monetary and banking history, the international correspondent banking network, offshore money markets, the foreign exchange market, and monetary and banking reform. close
