SoSe 21: Family-related determinants and their impact on education and labour market outcomes

What influence does family have on children's educational and labor market outcomes? Many of the previous studies focus on family form or, more generally, the composition of the family. But, besides that, what are other family-related determinants that can have an impact? The seminar will first clarify what is meant by the term family. Subsequently, we will identify various determinants that can have an influence on the educational and later labour market outcomes of children and adolescents and thus on social inequality. These determinants include family form, family climate, and the resources available within the family. Participants will be introduced to the main concepts and theories as well as quantitative studies in this field. close
