"Lernerorientierung im Fremdsprachenunterricht":
The focus of this course is the individual learner as the central determinant of classroom practices. It deals with different concepts and methods that cater for teaching heterogeneous groups. Over the course of the semester we will look at related topics such as experiential learning, individualisation and differentiation, task-based learning, project work, how to use the course book but also at aspects of classroom management. Participants will have the chance to enhance their lesson planning competence and to try out and reflect on different methods and activities in class. The course requires regular attendance, active participation, extensive reading, and an in-class presentation, including a handout.
Course structure: lectures, seminars, group work, microteaching, presentations plus feedback, and discussions.
Introductory readings: Timm, Johannes-Peter (2013): Lernerorientierter Fremdsprachenunterricht: Förderung systemisch-konstruktiver Lernprozesse. In: Timm, J. P./Bach, G. (Hrsg.): Englischunterricht. Grundlagen und Methoden einer handlungsorientierten Unterrichtspraxis. Tübingen: Narr. S. 43-60. Schocker, Marita (2016): „Auf die Lerner kommt es an! Den Englischunterricht von den Lernenden aus denken.” In: Der fremdsprachliche Unterricht Englisch. 143/2016, S. 2-7. More readings will be announced at the beginning of the term.
