SoSe 21: Comparing mediated publics across different contexts

This research-oriented seminar will explore new approaches to comparing today’s media environments. We will examine limitations of the classic theoretical frameworks for comparing media environments in the digital era and discuss possible solutions. The seminar will start with an overview of the existing theories for comparing media systems in and beyond the Western world, as well as with an introduction to the theory of multiple publics. Participants will work on case studies comparing media ecosystems across different (micro)contexts. The seminar has a strong focus on student’s own research projects and the work on FU-Wiki.
