SoSe 21: GK-Medieval English Literatures: Middle English Literature
Wolfram Keller
Comments
This lecture will provide students with a survey of Middle English literature, that is, vernacular literature written in the thirteenth, fourteenth, and fifteenth centuries. While the main focus will be on late fourteenth-century and early fifteenth-century literature—on authors like Geoffrey Chaucer, John Gower, and John Lydgate—students will also be introduced to earlier Middle English translations of Anglo-Norman romances and Breton lays, such as King Horn and Sir Launfal, as well as to late fifteenth and early sixteenth-century literature, like Thomas Malory’s Le Morte d'Arthur and John Skelton’s Garlande of Laurell. close
