This course will introduce you to the sociology of religion in the US. Protestantism and its continuous reinvention in the United States will play the main part of this course – as it is responsible for the build-up of a capitalistic society. Supplementing capitalism is a rugged individualism which also has Protestant roots. The course will follow the interplay between religion and society up to the current developments, e.g., the role of religion in conspiracy beliefs like QAnon.
