SoSe 21: Policy Analysis and current Issues
Betsy Leimbigler
Comments
This course is split into three distinct sections: 1) theories of policymaking processes, 2) current events in global health and the World Health Organization, and 3) in-class, hands-on analysis of select policies relating to the WHO Commission on Social Determinants to Health. This course begins with theories of the public policy process to give students a grounding in policy creation. We will then examine functions of the World Health Organization through its history, special reports and commissions, and its current role. Finally, the last section of the class will introduce students to documentary analysis. Students will be able to gain a better understanding of current issues both globally and in domestic contexts, and the global policies and organizations that are also interconnected, particularly as they relate to health and processes of globalization. close
