In the SoSe 2021, the Hauptseminar “Forschungsperspektiven der Semitistik – Digital methods for linguistic research” will deal with Digital Humanities methods for the creation of digital linguistic resources.
The course aims to introduce digital practices to be applied in humanities research and in Semitic studies in particular, by presenting methods for the creation of standards-compliant digital resources with XML and TEI.
The final objective is to provide students with the fundamental skills to build their own digital resources, with a special focus on digital editions and e-lexicography, addressing both text encoding and front-end matters.
Classes will include hands-on sessions to practice the methods learned, using the XML editor oXygen.
Main topics:
Introduction to XML and TEI
Standards-compliant creation of digital linguistic resources
XML/TEI markup for scholarly digital editions and e-lexicography
XSLT for transforming XML
