Students will gain knowledge of recent advances in the political economy of conflict, particularly applied empirical analyses with a focus on conflict in a broader sense (including protest, civil uprisings, war or the erosion of social cohesion in the global North and South). Students will read papers at the intersection of political economy, development economics, as well as international politics. They are able to critically evaluate research on these topics and assess strengths and weaknesses of causal claims. The students are able to identify gaps in the literature and develop research proposals that are empirically sound and add to the body of work in in a meaningful way. The course will be co-taught with the department of economics. Schließen
