Kommentar

Discourses on borders, bordering processes, and migration to the United States and the European Union have shaped political debates and governance policies at the national, regional, and global level. This course offers students the opportunity to examine borders and migration mobility from a sociological perceptive. In this, the role of borders and migration policies within and outside the US and EU territory will be embedded in historical continuations and investigated through different actors involved in border control as well as development aid. Viewing the European Union and the United States through the lens of their borders and migration policies allows to examine the intertwining of nation-state and citizenship rights, the securitisation of an alleged “other”, and the representation of an imagined self through the act of providing aid. Moreover, the course aims at giving students a better understanding of qualitative research on migration and border studies. Schließen
