This seminar will give students a basic understanding of the American constitutional system of government and the major themes in the legal regulation of elections and politics. We will engage state and federal constitutions, historical documents, case law, contemporary scholarship and reports and newspaper articles on topics of voting rights, reapportionment, partisan gerrymandering, campaign finance, the law of political parties, minority vote dilution, and racial gerrymandering.
