Access to the WZB is currently only possible via the side entrance from Hitzigallee. There is a gate at the fence leading to a bike parking area. If it is not open, please wait there, someone will come to open the gate. From the gate, follow the path to the door at the building. You have to show the documents for 3G to the person letting you in. Attention: Entrance is only possible between 15 to 5 minutes before the seminar starts. This seminar explores contemporary research in the field of inequality and social stratification. It focuses on relatively recent research and is intended to introduce you to many of the major themes and findings in this area. The readings and class discussions are designed to expose students to a broad range of influential pieces in the social stratification literature. In particular, we will study inequality through the lens of gender, family, race and ethnicity, intergenerational mobility, education, social capital, neighborhood and spatial inequality, and rising income inequality.

You should leave this course with a good basic understanding of contemporary research on inequality and social stratification. This will require you to read the materials assigned for class, to pose questions about these topics, and to engage in class discussions about the course materials. You will also learn how to develop your research questions. You will submit a final paper (of roughly 3,000 words) or pass an oral exam (25 minutes) focused on some element of inequality and social stratification by the end of the summer semester. Schließen
