In this course we will survey literature that provides background knowledge about ancient Northwest Semitic culture, from scribal education in the ancient Near East to secondary literature about specific inscriptions. This course will provide an introduction to the use of primary and secondary sources in research as well as a foundation for reading northwest Semitic inscriptions in the original script and language in subsequent semesters.
