This seminar will be devoted to a close reading of Kierkegaard’s Fear and Trembling. This text, written under the pseudonym of Johannes de Silentio, takes the biblical story of the Binding of Isaac as its starting point. Our reading of this text will allow us to explore: (i) the fundamental human experiences of doubt, anxiety, and faith; (ii) the nature of the ethical, as well as of ethics as a philosophical discipline; (iii) the relation between form and content in philosophical writing. close
