SoSe 22: Ü2-Contemporary Britain: Contemporary British Popular Culture
Ruth Wishart
Comments
In the summer semester, we will analyse a broad spectrum of British popular culture such as pop lit, cinema, television, pop music, sports, food, drink, and many others, with a focus on language as a tool to express various forms of cultural identity, nationality, class, gender and ethnicity. We will also keep an eye on the development of topical issues in British politics such as what is happening in post-Brexit (and post-Johnson?) UK and, of course, the continuing impact of Covid on British society.
As in the winter semester, students will be required to deliver a 30-minute presentation, with a focus on an aspect of British popular culture.
The requirement for participation in the course is the successful completion of the first part of the module.
