SoSe 22: From "Dune" to "Frankenstein in Baghdad": Science Fiction in Context
Jonas Müller-Laackman
Comments
Whether Dune or Star Wars, many well-known science fiction works have been inspired, sometimes more, sometimes less clearly, by the Arabic language, history and culture. Yet the Arabic genre works themselves remain largely marginalized and unknown to readers outside the Arabic-speaking world. The course will serve to approach the Arabic part of the genre, but also to read and discuss excerpts of well-known non-Arabic science fiction novels, with a special focus on region-specific influences. Interests and wishes of the students will be taken into account. close
