Comments
Face-to-face interaction between two persons involves both parties communicating a variety of social cues, such as eye gaze. What role does eye gaze play in social interactions? This seminar will give students an overview of the theoretical and methodological issues, possibilities, and limitations surrounding the use of electroencephalography (EEG) in studying social cognitive mechanisms in the field of Social Neuroscience. Over the course of this seminar, you will first learn about the theoretical background of EEG, the importance of eye gazing in social cognition, significant findings relating to EEG and eye gaze, following how to interpret the relevant EEG signals.
In the second part of the course, you'll receive hands-on training in our lab and participate in an EEG study that will demonstrate some of the phenomena and research protocols covered in lectures and readings, as well as provide you firsthand experience with the EEG recording equipment. Most of the practical exercises will involve you and your classmates, but one exercise will also require you to bring a volunteer to participate in the recording. close
