SoSe 22: Introduction to East Asian Art History: Methods

The course serves as an introduction to the methodological approaches of the study of East Asian art history. As base for independent and academical studies of artworks, fundamentals of scientific working methods – bibliographic research, determination of the state of the field, source study, citation methods, oral presentation, term paper – as well as fundamental methods and theories of art history will be worked on through exercises with selected objects. Students will be reading texts on an array of methods and their application on objects, and learn to develop and properly handle problem-oriented research questions. An intensive study of the assigned reading materials as preparation before each session is crucial to achieve good learning outcomes.
