Comments
In Arabic literature, fiction is not declared as such before the tenth century. Nonetheless apparently factual and historical narratives often have fictional character. We will trace the strategies of fictional representation in a selection of prose works, inc. pseudo-historical and legendary accounts (akhbar), the genre “Relief upon Adversity” (al-faraj ba’d al-shidda), and transcripts of salon conversations (majalis) and compare these with the openly declared fiction in the maqamat. close
