SoSe 22: Frantz Fanon - Key Texts
Jan Slaby
Comments
We read and discuss key texts by Frantz Fanon, especially most of Black Skin, White Masks (1952) and the first section (On Violence) of The Wretched of the Earth (1961). To assess Fanon‘s growing recognition as a path-breaking thinker of the 20th century, we will also read contemporary texts that demonstrate the profound impact of Fanon‘s thought on current discussions within Postcolonial Theory, Black Studies and Critical Phenomenology. To prepare, begin reading Black Skin, White Masks (both the Markman and the Philcox translations are ok), especially the Introduction, chapter 1 and chapter 5. The seminar will be held in English; term papers and oral exams might also be conducted in German. close
