SoSe 22: GEND The Politics of Food in Urban Spaces: A Feminist Perspective
Marlene Gómez Becerra
Comments
The course seeks to provide a theoretical, empirical, and critical understanding of the politics of food and grassroots food communities in urban spaces. It elaborates on themes such as the political ecology of food chains, colonial legacies and women movements, genetically modified organisms, critical narratives to the local (trap), whiteness in alternative food networks, food activism and care, food waste management, food and non-human-others, postcapitalist economies and food commons. The course will be divided in two sections. The first one focuses on a theoretical analysis, discussion, and exploration of the inequalities and patterns of power that compose the corporative agrarian regime. And the second one focuses on food initiatives at a local scale and their transformative potential and contradictions. The course is organized through readings, visual contents, and practical experiences. A dialogue between the geopolitical global north and the geopolitical global south will be highlighted throughout the course. close
