Comments
The course aims to introduce digital practices to be applied in humanities research and in Semitic studies in particular, by presenting methods for the creation of standards-compliant digital resources with XML and TEI. The final objective is to provide students with the fundamental skills to build their own digital resources, with a special focus on digital editions and e-lexicography, addressing both text encoding and front-end matters. The application of standards will also be discussed alongside license attribution.
Students will work on a project to be developed across the course.
Classes will include hands-on sessions to practice the methods learned, using the XML editor oXygen. The license is available to students of FU Berlin and may be downloaded from the Zedat portal. Please make sure to have the software installed prior to the commencement of the course.
Main topics: Introduction to XML and TEI; Standards-compliant creation of digital linguistic resources; XML/TEI markup for scholarly digital editions and e-lexicography; XSLT for transforming XML close
