Comments
The current and vibrant debates about colonial memory, the role of museums, colonialism and genocide, and the Holocaust concern core issues of German history, and at the same time reach far beyond it. In this seminar, we seek to trace and discuss the central arguments in these debates from a global history perspective. To whom does history belong, and what is its function in our present? What is the role of colonialism in the history of modernity and globalization? In the seminar, the focus will be on debates about German colonialism, but we will place them in a global context.
